AOL Original Series FLAT OUT Activates Twitter "Flyaway" Sweepstakes

Today, AOL Original series FLAT OUT announced its Twitter "Flyaway" sweepstakes with featured partner Rockstar Energy. The sweepstakes will give one lucky fan and a guest the once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet series star Dylan Kwasniewski and be a part of NASCAR's prestigious Sprint Cup Series Champion's Week in Las Vegas on Dec. 3 – 6.

The two-day getaway will be jam packed with thrilling NASCAR experiences including the opportunity to drive a real NASCAR race car through the Richard Petty Driving Experience at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, an intimate dinner with Kwasniewski and VIP access to NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series Champion's Week activities, which celebrate the top 13 Sprint Cup Series drivers of the racing season. As a part of Champion's Week, the winner and his/her guest will witness first-hand a traditional NASCAR start line as the champs cruise down Las Vegas Boulevard, performing burn-outs and authentic pit stops in front of the Bellagio Fountain during the famous NASCAR Victory Lap.

For the chance to win, audiences must re-tweet a special message from @AOLOriginals. The promotion is in conjunction with the launch of a bonus episode that documents Kwasniewski's frightening crash at New Hampshire Motor Speedway earlier this fall and his dramatic championship win!

Contestants must be 16 years or older and reside within the United States. Entries are eligible 9 a.m. EST on Nov. 21 through 11:59 p.m. EST on Nov.24. For official contest rules, visit http://on.fb.me/1c720Lj.

Feeding the Curiosity Monster

One of AOL's core values is embracing change and we're encouraged to have "a DNA of curiosity," to think big and take chances. It's a great topic of conversation, and as one of AOL's cultural ambassadors I love learning how others keep their curiosity monster well-fed. Last week I attended AOL Advertising's new speaker series, Masters of Advertising, where David Shing, a thought leader and member of senior management presented his telescopic view of creativity and how brands can differentiate themselves in the bustling digital marketplace. Here are a few things I learned:

  • Attention is the new currency. David mentioned that most users download over 40 apps to their smartphone or tablet and actively use a core set of about five. It is a brand marketer's challenge to retool how they approach securing that mindshare in order to successfully gain market share.
  • Exercise your right brain every day. The daily grind of the work week is inherently tethered to our left brain guru. I don't know about you, but I find myself keeping more tabs on my to do lists and project plans than stretching my right brain beyond its comfort zone. David encouraged the audience to start channeling their individual creativity by stepping away from the spreadsheets and exercising the other parts of the brain.
  • Ideas are everywhere. There is a wealth of content available not only for consumption, but also for inspiration. "Contagious videos" are a growing portion of that content, they tell the brand story from a human experience. David shared the following thought-provoking examples during his presentation: Driving Dogs, Metro Train PSA, Fallen Angels (UK).

Irish Eyes are Smiling

AOLers across the world are gearing up for the holidays this season, from themed parties and decorations, to fundraisers and company events. However, we'd have to rank the AOL Ireland team towards the top of the list for most festive.

Why? Think big. The team has completely transformed the side of Dublin's Boland's Mill building into a gigantic 3D winter wonderland. This stunt is part of a brand awareness campaign for the Dublin team, which is currently recruiting 35 software engineers to join AOL in the new year.

Using state-of-the-art 3D mapping and high-powered projectors, the former flour mill will be lit up for 12 days with stunning holiday animations, providing a festive spectacle for residents and visitors of Grand Canal. In addition to the visual promotion, the campaign has a heavy social media element displaying the hashtag #merryaol on the projected screen to capture the reactions of those passersby who are inspired to Tweet.

Want to learn more? Check out the video from the launch evening below and watch additional videos from the stunt over the next 12 days on AOL Ireland's Facebook page.
