ESPN and AOL Strike Premium Video Syndication Agreement

As of October 8, ESPN Video will be featured across AOL's owned & operated and partner sites - providing our audience the majority of ESPN's video, including news, highlights and analysis.

ESPN's leadership in high-quality sports content is second to none, and the premium video syndication agreement will deepen our leading collection of online video content, while significantly boosting our sports-related offerings.

Highlights of the deal include:

  • ESPN will provide AOL with ESPN-branded news, highlights and analysis, including video content seen on SportsCenter and other ESPN programs, covering a wide array of sports.
  • AOL will syndicate ESPN video content across both its owned and operated sites (such as AOL.com and The Huffington Post) along with its vast network of partners that includes 1,700 publishers such as Cox, Gannett, and the Boston Globe, as well as mobile phones, tablets and connected TV devices.
  • In conjunction with AOL editors, ESPN's state-of-the-art production facility will help program content across the AOL network so that consumers reading text articles on both AOL's family of sites and its partners' sites will be served relevant ESPN videos providing an optimal consumer experience.
  • The library of ESPN videos will also be housed in a brand-specific channel on the AOL On Network (on.aol.com/espn), AOL's video platform that launched in 2012 and exclusively features curated, premium video content.
  • Ad sales for this video content will be led by ESPN, and revenue will be shared by both parties along with AOL's syndication partners.

Currently, AOL is the number two video property on the Internet reaching more than 71 million unique visitors and attracting 992M streams per month through the AOL On Network*.This is an important moment for ESPN, AOL and our partners, who can now take advantage of compelling sports video content in order to deepen engagement with their readers.

Introducing HuffPost UK Sport

Today I'm delighted to announce the launch of HuffPost Sport, the latest channel on our ever-expanding site.

With London gearing up for The Olympics, and Euro 2012 only a few months away, it couldn't be a better time for us to add Sport into the mix of topics we cover.

While our latest recruit, reporter Samuel Luckhurst, will be updating the site with all the latest sporting news, thesection's whole raison d'être will be those who play, love and follow sport, inviting debate, comment and opinion from the UK's most passionate fans, whether it's the premiership or Six Nations that gets your heart beating faster.

Being British, we fully expect there to be plenty of footie written about in our blogs, however, we're also aiming to be a destination for niche sports, where everyone from synchronized swimmers to curling champions can debate the merits of their favorite pastime with other dedicated fans.

In keeping with this wide range of sports, we have a real mix of voices from different walks of life blogging for us today, including Lord Coe on the Olympics, Gary Kemp from Spandau Ballet on cycling, WWE's Zack Ryder on wrestling and Kevin Cahill, founder of Sport Relief, alongside Will Carling and Andy Murray.

AOL Sport Launches in Partnership with Sporting Life

Our international sister site, AOL UK, is giving sports fans a reason to celebrate with the launch of AOL Sport. The new site launches in partnership with Sporting Life, which will integrate sports news, reviews, fixtures results and tables into the content hosted on AOL Sport.

The partnership builds on an existing deal with Sporting Life, which has previously provided limited fixtures and results for Fanhouse. The newly launched AOL Sport will offer fans a wide range of sports news and content covering Football (a.k.a. Soccer), Tennis, Rugby, Golf, Horse Racing, Cricket, Boxing and the Olympics.

Sporting Life, the leading provider of sports news and content (owned by Sky), will also integrate its Sky Bet service into AOL Sport.

AOL Sport is also the latest UK site to undergo a redesign, bringing it in line with our broader AOL portfolio.

The launch of AOL Sport replaces Fanhouse UK, AOL's current sporting site. From today, Fanhouse visitors will be redirected to AOL Sport.
