AOL Appoints Head of Americas and New Canadian Managing Director

As AOL continues to grow globally, the business has announced two new executive appointments in the Americas. AOL opened its first LatAm office in Sao Paulo in October 2015 and this week it will officially launch the AOL proposition in Brazil. In growing the organization and by carving out regional leadership in both Brazil and Canada, AOL continues to expand and invest in its talent globally.

Joe Strolz, who formerly led AOL Canada and was the Partner Integration lead for Microsoft Advertising, has been appointed as Head of Americas for AOL. In his new role, Joe will continue to oversee the strategy for the Americas region outside of the US with a focus on building AOL's footprint in Latin America. Joe will report to Graham Moysey, Head of International, AOL. In addition, Brad Cressman will take on the role of Managing Director of AOL Canada, stepping up from his previous role as Head of Business Operations.

Graham Moysey, Head of International, AOL said: "AOL has been laser focused on growing its presence globally and in the last year we have seen our global footprint grow substantially through organic growth, acquisition and partnerships. Canada has been a strong catalyst for our international growth, and with Brazil officially launching this week, we are doubling down on the opportunity in the Americas. Under Joe and Brad's leadership AOL will be focused on accelerating our market presence in the Americas through our global portfolio of brands, and our advertising and publisher platforms."

Since joining AOL in 2013, Joe has been an incredibly strong leader, driving the growth of the Canadian business in video, programmatic, and original content, as well as leading the successful integration of Microsoft's advertising business globally across the US, Canada, UK, Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and Japan. Under Joe's leadership, AOL Canada ranked on the list of Canada's 100 best workplaces and was also named one of North America's 50 most engaged workplaces.

Brad Cressman will be tasked with defining the local strategy for AOL in Canada based on the company's global objectives and will continue to run operations of all aspects of the Canadian business. In over five years at AOL, Brad has played a key role in the launch of HuffPost Canada, the evolution of AOL's content and brands platforms including, AOL's foray into original video content, and most recently leading the day-to-day business as Head of Business Operations.

Charles Gabriel Takes on Expanded Role

Charles Gabriel

Scaling the AOL On Network to global audiences continues to be a leading focus for my team in 2014. With global growth already under way at the AOL On Network and with guidance from global leaders already in place in Bob Lord, Jim Norton, Graham Moysey and Tal Simantov, I'm pleased to announce Charles Gabriel will broaden the scope of his role to focus on global video sales.

Over the past three years, Charles has evolved to be a big voice in our industry and regularly leads conferences, publishes articles (TechCrunch, Adweek and others), has a wealth of relationships and is viewed as an industry expert. Charles has been a key player for several years now, playing a critical role in growing revenue before 5min was acquired in 2010 through our best year to date in 2013. Charles has been instrumental to the evolution and success of the AOL On Network, and our success largely stems from his ability to scale video sales and expand our reach and sales offering to both digital and traditional media buyers.

In this new role, Charles will be responsible for growing AOL Video's revenue in addition to integrating Adap.TV's media offering into his existing org. He'll work with Graham and Tal to anchor AOL's video presence in key global marketplaces, and we expect exciting announcements in the upcoming months.

I'm continuously impressed by Charles's ability to tell our video story. He has mentored our sellers to become the strongest video talent in the industry and he continues to invest in the team and their development. I'm confident that Charles will lead AOL Video sales into the next phase of growth in 2014.

Leadership Changes Reflect AOL's Deep Roster of Talent

There are many reasons to be excited about our prospects as a company, but perhaps none greater than the level of talent we have at AOL across the board.

With that said, I'm excited to announce two changes within our leadership structure as we head into the final quarter of the year:

  • Maureen Sullivan will be taking over the leadership of AOL Homepage, effective immediately. You all know the tremendous work underway to revitalize AOL.com, and I'm excited to have Maureen take the helm at such a pivotal time. She is a tremendous brand builder and a results-oriented executive.
In overseeing our Women's and Lifestyle Group, she has led the development and growth of the MAKERS brand as a global digital platform for documenting and celebrating the stories of extraordinary women. In addition, Maureen has led a reinvention of our Lifestyle group, developing unique brands covering weddings, food and style. She has generated great momentum across the board for the entire group this year evidenced by StyleList topping its category for eight consecutive months.

She will continue to oversee the Women's and Lifestyle Group, as well.
  • As we continue to invest and grow our international footprint, Graham Moysey will take on the new role of Head of International and relocate from Toronto to our London office. Graham was appointed Head of International for the O&O business earlier this year. In his new role, he will oversee all international business for AOL with a dual reporting structure to me (for AOL Brands) and to Bob Lord (for AOL Networks). He will also partner with Bud on the Subscription business outside the U.S.
During his tenure at AOL, Graham has illustrated the ability to collaborate across borders and across a variety of business units, and we are confident he will bring that spirit to his new role. Graham will be supported by the strong leadership team we have in place in our offices in Europe as well as in Tel Aviv, Bangalore and Tokyo.

Please join me in congratulating Maureen and Graham on their new roles.
