AOL Covers Election Night in a Whole New Way


After 18 months of campaigning, more than $1 billion in spending, and umpteen stories about Ohio, Florida, Iowa, and New Hampshire, election season ends tonight. We think AOL.com will be the best place to follow all the action.

Our experience live blogging the debates taught us a few things. First and foremost, AOL users love live events and the live blog format, wanting up to the second updates. We also learned our audience will use us both as a primary news source and as a second screen with their TV. Finally, we continue to prove (most recently highlighted by our coverage of Hurricane Sandy) that AOL's powerhouse brands, news gathering assets, and technology platform can deliver local, national, and international coverage of breaking news at an unmatched scale and scope.

So, to take advantage of these trends, we're trying something new tonight on the AOL homepage.

Working with our colleagues at HuffPost, Patch, and the rest of AOL, we're putting a live blog directly on the homepage to bring the best of the company in real time to our audience. Working closely with the extraordinary HuffPost news, analysis, and infographics teams, we'll also have real time state by state election results graphics and results. And we'll have on the spot reports from Patches across the company and links to streaming coverage on HuffPost Live.

Visit aol.com after 6pm. We'll be there till it is over (unless of course, there's a recount).

AOL Advertising UK Jumps to Third Place in IPA Spring 2012 Survey

The AOL Advertising team in the UK is celebrating another jump in the bi-annual Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) Digital Media Owners Image Survey.

Today the IPA announced that AOL Advertising has jumped to third place overall in the Spring 2012 survey, quite a feat seeing that 24 months ago the business was ranked in fourteenth place. In fact, during that period we rose from fourteenth to sixth to fourth and now third. This great jump can be attributed to a dedicated advertising team that works closely with our agencies and clients to not only understand campaign objectives, but deliver results driven campaigns where the agency is front and center in everything we do.

The latest survey results led Nigel Gwilliam, Head of Digital for IPA, to say that we were the "...most consistently improved performer..."

As well as coming in third overall, the UK team scored highly in the grand majority of categories, including:
  • Understanding client objectives
  • Providing high quality responses to briefs
  • Professionalism in dealing with dispute resolution
  • Easy to contact the sales team,
  • The team that engenders a real sense of partnership with agency

AOL UK's DareDevil Challenge Names a Winner

Congratulations to creative agency BETC London for winning AOL UK's DareDevil challenge, earning a campaign for their client port brand Cockburn's. The challenge was run in association with leading creative advertising trade publication Campaign.

The campaign features a branded video and a Facebook module.

BETC beat tough competition from a number of other agencies and brands who entered the completion which launched at the Campaign Media Awards in late 2011.

The campaign, worth £30,000, is now running on AOL UK sites. You can see the winning entry and finalists on the DareDevil site.

AOL Partners with Promote Iceland to Launch Inspirational Campaign


In partnership with Promote Iceland, today we've launched an innovative cross-platform campaign, Inspired by Iceland, that will raise awareness around Iceland as a year-round holiday destination by delivering inspirational content spanning our editorial sites and AOL advertising platforms.

Inspired by Iceland is the first Europe-wide marketing campaign that fully integrates a comprehensive suite of AOL advertising products, creative solutions and innovative platforms – including the first Project Devil ad with a live camera feed. Working hand-in-hand with the client and agencies from the outset, we've been able to push the envelope in our creative efforts in delivering a campaign that's groundbreaking and sure to make an impact with our users.

The campaign also marks the launch of The Huffington Post UK Inspiration, a new section of HuffPost UK that enables brands to communicate directly with prospective consumers via video, blogs and social media. The section goes live today with a number of exclusive blogs and interactive competitions lined up to begin next week.
