AOL Launches New Docu-Series, city.ballet.

AOL has launched its newest documentary series, city.ballet., offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at the day-to-day lives of the elite roster of artists who perform with the New York City Ballet.
Conceived by executive producer and NYCB board member Sarah Jessica Parker, and produced by Pretty Matches Productions and Zero Point Zero Production, city.ballet. offers fans an all-access pass into the country's largest and most prominent dance company. Each 6-8 minute episode in the 12 episode series, narrated by Parker, takes viewers through a dancer's journey both on and off the stage.

In addition to rare footage of NYCB Company Class, rehearsals and performances, the series will provide access to many of the more than 90 dancers who perform with the Company, including visits to their apartments, physical therapy sessions, and a glimpse into their lives in New York City.

Also included in the series are interviews with NYCB Ballet Master in Chief Peter Martins and dancers such as Principals Jared Angle, Tyler Angle, Ashley Bouder, Megan Fairchild, Robert Fairchild, Chase Finlay, Sara Mearns, Tiler Peck, Amar Ramasar, Teresa Reichlen, Adrian Danchig-Waring, and Andrew Veyette; Soloists Craig Hall, Megan LeCrone, Lauren Lovette, and Georgina Pazcoguin; and Corps de Ballet members Harrison Ball, Silas Farley, Gretchen Smith, Giovanni Villalobos, and Claire Von Enck.

New York City Ballet's 2013-14 season will continue with the Company's annual performances of the beloved holiday classic George Balanchine's The Nutcracker™, which will take place from November 29, 2013 through January 4, 2014 at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center.

The series is now available at cityballet.com and bonus footage and content, including one-on-one interviews with the dancers and Parker, will also be available throughout the season.

ESPN and AOL Strike Premium Video Syndication Agreement

As of October 8, ESPN Video will be featured across AOL's owned & operated and partner sites - providing our audience the majority of ESPN's video, including news, highlights and analysis.

ESPN's leadership in high-quality sports content is second to none, and the premium video syndication agreement will deepen our leading collection of online video content, while significantly boosting our sports-related offerings.

Highlights of the deal include:

  • ESPN will provide AOL with ESPN-branded news, highlights and analysis, including video content seen on SportsCenter and other ESPN programs, covering a wide array of sports.
  • AOL will syndicate ESPN video content across both its owned and operated sites (such as AOL.com and The Huffington Post) along with its vast network of partners that includes 1,700 publishers such as Cox, Gannett, and the Boston Globe, as well as mobile phones, tablets and connected TV devices.
  • In conjunction with AOL editors, ESPN's state-of-the-art production facility will help program content across the AOL network so that consumers reading text articles on both AOL's family of sites and its partners' sites will be served relevant ESPN videos providing an optimal consumer experience.
  • The library of ESPN videos will also be housed in a brand-specific channel on the AOL On Network (on.aol.com/espn), AOL's video platform that launched in 2012 and exclusively features curated, premium video content.
  • Ad sales for this video content will be led by ESPN, and revenue will be shared by both parties along with AOL's syndication partners.

Currently, AOL is the number two video property on the Internet reaching more than 71 million unique visitors and attracting 992M streams per month through the AOL On Network*.This is an important moment for ESPN, AOL and our partners, who can now take advantage of compelling sports video content in order to deepen engagement with their readers.

AOL Launches New Series, 'ACTING DISRUPTIVE'

Today, AOL is very excited to announce the premiere of the new original web series "ACTING DISRUPTIVE." We're committed to providing the most entertaining content in video - and our efforts have been on a roll. We're the number two video property on the Internet, reaching more than 71 million unique visitors and attracting 992M streams per month through the AOL On Network. As 'Acting Disruptive' joins our group of premium quality original programming, we're bridging the gap between what people see on TV and what the view online.

The series follows co-creator and host Max Lugavere as he sits down with Jessica Alba, Rainn Wilson, Olivia Wilde, Jared Leto and several other A-listers.
Each episode in the 12-part series will follow Max as he gets an inside look into these businesses and creative projects, giving fans an all-access view into these innovative ventures and the famous faces behind them. Throughout the series, viewers will witness how these celebrities are acting disruptive and leveraging their star power in an effort to better the world through their innovative businesses – offering a new perspective on some of viewers' favorite celebrities, and provides exclusive access and insight into businesses born out of personal passion.

VH1 Rock Doc, "DOWNLOADED," Streams Free Today on AOL

Today, we're excited to announce an AOL-first. We've acquired a feature film to stream for free on AOL On: VH1 rock doc Downloaded, which takes viewers behind-the-scenes of the monumental rise and fall of Napster.

Head to downloadeddoc.com to stream Downloaded, the critically acclaimed doc directed by Alex Winter. It will also be available through the AOL On app on mobile devices and TV, as well as AOL brand channels including Moviefone, Cambio, and Mandatory. You can find the film syndicated across the AOL On Network, AOL's premium network of publishers, including featured destination site's SPIN.com and VIBE.com.

Building on AOL On's position as the web's largest library of curated video content, AOL offers filmmakers a unique digital distribution model and the opportunity to release their films to the 100M consumers visiting AOL each month across its platforms. Taking into consideration the changing habits of viewers across different devices, AOL will provide multiple viewing experiences for Downloaded. Consumers will have the option to watch the film in seven distinct chapters or view it in its entirety, and will have access to new, exclusive bonus content. AOL will also offer live "add-ons" to the viewing experience tonight, such as the live chat with director Alex Winter and other special guests, which will allow for partners to drive real-time engagement with fans. In the past, AOL has similarly partnered on video content with other entertainment companies such as Sony, Discovery and Billboard.

AOL On Rolls Out More Video Series

We're proud to say that the AOL On portfolio of original video series has been growing – most recently with the debut of "The Sartorialist". The series follows photographer and street blogger Scott Schuman as he searches the city streets from New York to Milan, Madrid and other capitals of Europe for amazing fashion and the stories behind the style.

"Serving Innovation," another new series, gives viewers a fresh look into the stories and passions that motivate some of the most innovative tastemakers in America. Check out the last three episodes that have profiled chef Richard Blais, baker Dorie Greenspan and brewmaster Garrett Oliver.
